Menchanko-Tei might be considered as one of the best Ramen restaurants in Midtown. There are two locations: one is on 45th btw. Lex & 3rd and the other is on 55th btw. 5+6th.
The logo dish is Menchanko- their original noodle recipe individually cooked in a cast iron bowl. They start with traditional thick ramen noodles in a rich soy broth, and then add chicken, shrimp, salmon ball, tofu, rice cake and vegetables. There are 11 versions of Menchanko, such as Miso Menchanko, Curry Menchanko, Kimchi Menchanko, etc.
The Tsuke Men is special and tasty too, which is chilled thick ramen noodles topped with your choice of pork or chicken and boiled egg, vegetables served with a choice of spicy miso or seafood soy broth.
I also recommend Maguro Poki from their Appetizer menu, which is tuna mixed lightly with sesame oil, soy sauce, onion and pine nuts. Very yummy!
Menchanko-Tei has Oden bar as well. Oden (おでん, 關東煮) is a Japanese traditional dish consisting of several ingredients such as boiled eggs, daikon radish, konnyaku and processed fish cakes stewed in a light, soy-flavoured dashi broth. You can order these ingredients individually, price ranging from $1~$2.5, or oder 5 for $8.5.
